So Far, So Green

Everybody's talking about the green data center, but the fact is that few are actually doing it. This is no surprise, considering we're talking about revamping infrastructures and design concepts that have guided the enterprise practically since its inception.

And while most existing centers are cutting power costs by updating to new green technologies like virtualization and energy-efficient storage systems, big savings can also be found in heating and cooling, some of which can be realized only by building an entirely new structure from the ground up.

So in that light, I'd thought I'd draw some attention to the green technology going into the newest data centers to hopefully give people an idea of what their future operations might look like.

Hosting firm Terremark is putting the finishing touches on its new facility in Culpepper, Va., with a strong eye toward more efficient heating and cooling. Technologies like Rotary UPSes, variable-speed fans and roof-mounted cooling reserves that take advantage of night temperatures to reduce daytime heat are a few of the innovations at play here. A high degree of modularity and reliance on utility computing are also part of the mix.

IBM is laying claim to the largest green datacenterin North America. The company's new facility in Boulder, Colo., measures in at 115,000 square feet, with more than 70,000 square feet of raised floor space. The design features a "free-cooling" system featuring a water economizing module, plus variable-speed motors and pumps in the air conditioning system. The building is also tied to a wind-powered electricity grid slated to produce more than 1 million kilowatt hours per year. It's expected to cut energy costs some 40 percent.

But IBM might not have the size advantage for very long. I found details on a new center that Advanced Data Centersis building in Sacramento, Calif. It is slated to occupy more than 230,000 square feet and features a laundry list of green innovations, such as air-side economizers, hot/cold isle chiller and fan systems, and support for water-cooled cabinetry. The company is expecting a total cost of ownership of $0.07744/kWh.

Over in Europe, a company called EvoSwitch recently expanded its center in Amsterdam by 2,000 square meters, forgoing the usual air compression technology in favor of a more efficient system that delivers normal outside air at higher capacities and with less resistance, shaving up to 20 percent off the cooling budget. The company also went with 19-inch racks that can boost the power rating to as much as 20 kW per rack without substantially increasing cooling requirements.

Green technology is such a fertile area these days that virtually every new data center will feature a unique blend of energy-saving techniques and design elements. Some of these will require larger up-front costs than standard technologies, but if energy prices continue to climb, the return will be shorter than you think.

4 Effective Computer Data Recovery Options

Anyone who has had the unfortunate experience of having their personal computer crash knows the anguish that can result. When irreplaceable files, email addresses, pictures, videos and other personal details are seemingly lost for good, despair doesn't begin to describe the feelings involved.

You might be relieved to hear there are four effective computer data recovery options available which could help restore some, if not all of your files, as noted below.

1. Check other hardware components.
Occasionally a computer data recovery effort will not even be required at all. While it might seem like a hard drive has crashed, another component may be to blame. For example, the mother board or power supply might be faulty. Therefore, it makes sense to check these things before writing off the hard drive. If it's unclear that these parts might be to blame, enlisting professional help might be in order. A computer hardware technician will be able to tell rather quickly if the hard drive has crashed or if another part is to blame.

2. Repair core system files.
If a computer will still not boot up, computer data recovery in this case might require repairing or replacing corrupt core operating system files. To do this, follow the instructions that come up when an operating system disk is placed into the computer. If you are still uncertain about the steps to follow to repair the OS, have a computer expert repair the system to avoid accidental overwriting of data.

3. Data recovery software programs.
If the operating system or hardware issues are not blame for the failure and the computer will still boot up, a computer data recovery disk might help restore missing or accidentally deleted files. There are programs available from computer shops and online that are specifically designed to help with data recovery efforts.

4. Professional data recovery services.
There are companies that specialize in computer data recovery. They have the necessary hardware and software tools required to be able to recover files that individuals will not have at home or in the office. While these services can be costly, I'm sure that if your data is restored, you'll agree that the expense is worth it. Beyond regular computer professional services that specialize in data recovery, computer forensics companies might be able to help out in extreme cases (for example, computers damaged in the case of fire or flood).

Computer data recovery is possible even when a hardware crash or failure has occurred. While the results will vary depending on the severity of the crash, the cause and the methods used, it is possible to retrieve files and data off of even the most severely damaged of hard drives.

For practical advice and information on free data recovery software, programs, tools and utilities to help you safely recover your data, please visit our website, http://www.datarecoveryfreeware.net

Downloading iPod Music - Advantages and Disadvantages

Consider this. You have recently bought a new set of your much awaited iPod and now you wish to download your favorite music. How will you go about this? Probably, you would think of downloading iTunes but here the cost can be a big set back to your plans. Since, they charge per song or music download and hence the cost of your downloading can exceed your budget. But the good news for you is that now there are many membership sites which offer you unlimited downloading of iPod music, songs, and music videos for one time membership charges. But there are certain advantages and disadvantages for music and video downloading from these sites.

Advantages of music and video downloads

• Lifetime membership for one time payment - The membership of these sites cost you only once. Once you have subscribed for the membership, you can download unlimited number of songs or music at your iPod. There is no restriction of the number of the songs and time of downloading.
• Low cost - the iPod music downloads sites save you a lot of money as compared to the other downloads which charge you per song. Moreover, the cost of buying the CDs would also cost you more than the one time membership charges paid for unlimited music and songs.
• Unlimited Music - These sites offer you millions of songs and music, so you can choose any of your choice and can download that in your iPod. Also, the latest hits are always available on such sites.
• Unlimited number of media files, movies, videos, and games - Besides the music, these sites offer you unlimited number of other media files such as movies, videos, games, and TV shows to be saved in your iPod.
• Free Software - Most of these membership sites offer you the free software including music and video converters enabling the music and movie files to be converted into iPod compatible format such as MP3 and H.264 video. So, a good amount of money is saved by these sites, which would have otherwise been spent on the expensive video conversion applications.

Disadvantages of music and video downloads

• Illegal sites - There may be some sites which can lead you to face scams. Always make sure that you read the terms and conditions carefully, so that you are not dragged to any kind of violation of the copyright laws for downloading the music for your iPod. So, be careful about the music and the source you are downloading from.
• Poor downloading speed - Some of the membership sites are there which are only concerned with making money and thus cannot provide good services to its customers. These sites are poorly maintained and hence there servers cannot stand with the growing traffic volumes resulting into low speed of downloading. While on other side, there are some very good sites which offer the excellent services to its customers by providing good speed of downloading.
• Poor after-sales services - Some of the sites are so badly run that they do not even bother about the quality after-sales services and customer support. So, make it sure to confirm all aspects of a membership site before subscribing to it.

So, there are both, good things and bad things of the membership sites for downloading of iPod music. What you are required to maintain that always enquire everything about a site, so that you do not get caught up in wrong hands.

Windows XP Computer Tune-up

Temp Files - How do those temp files get there in the first place, and what do you gain by deleting them? As applications process and manipulate data, many create temporary files. Often these are used as emergency backups and sometimes for temporary storage while the program does some other type of processing. This is especially true of applications that handle large files: word processors, image-manipulation programs, desktop publishing applications, or video-editing tools. The result is that the head of the hard drive, the part that seeks out the data, has to travel all over the drive to find what it's looking for. That's more work for the drive and, perhaps more important, more time it spends looking for data than actually reading it in.

Because some of those files, the temp files for instance, don't even need to be there, that slows down the system even more. To make things even worse, having these extra files around can contribute to a secondary problem that also results in a slower system. No matter how much memory you have, it's a finite resource. Sooner or later, some processing-related activity will use up all of your available memory. The less memory you have, the sooner and more often that will occur. And when it does occur, Windows has a clever way to deal with the memory shortage: it starts using chunks of hard-drive space as virtual memory. The system creates a swap file that it uses as if it were additional (but slow) memory; instead of holding data in real memory, it sends information to, and reads it back from, the hard drive instead of to and from memory. System Tune-up will remove all current *.tmp files.

Slow or Windows Startup Errors - Another important thing to help improve Windows performance is to disable all the unnecessary "start-up shortcuts" found in the System Tray. The icons seen near the digital clock in the Windows Taskbar are "shortcuts" which have told various programs to start running when your computer is booted (on the theory that you'll be able to get into them more quickly when you need them).

But what if you don't need them? Should they be running in the background and using system resources? Why not turn them off and just launch them when you need them (except for your AV program, as mentioned above)? System Tune-up will safely remove unnecessary programs from your startup programs.

Removing all *.dll Files - DLL (Dynamically Link Library) is an executable file that permits programs to share code to perform one or more predefined functions. A DLL file can be used by several programs at the same time. The benefit of having DLL files is that they don't get loaded into random access memory (RAM) along with the main program, which saves up space in RAM. So instead of all the coding being built into the program, it uses a particular DLL file that, with a simple call, can execute the operation for it. Virtually all Windows applications use a variety of control and configuration files. One of the most common types is DLL files, typically installed in the WindowsSystem subdirectory.

Few people are familiar with DLLs and their corresponding applications. And it's unlikely anyone could know them all. As you make changes to your software, especially by uninstalling or removing applications, DLL files are sometimes left behind. These are space hogging artifacts you no longer want or need. Want to clean out some of those pesky DLL files that get left over throughout your system when you uninstall programs? Aren't sure which ones are safe to delete and which ones need to be there? System Tune-up will safely remove all unneeded *.dll files from your computer.

Avast Install and Boot-Up Run Time Scan - Avast! v4.8 represents a multi-award winning solution to virus protection, with anti-spy ware and anti-root kit protection software built in for added security. Root kit can be defined as a collection of one or more tools designed to covertly maintain control of a computer. Root kits have more commonly been associated with tools used for hiding programs or processes from the users. Root kit uses functions in the operating system to hide itself, so as not to be detected, and is often used to hide other malicious programs such as keystroke loggers. The use of root kits is not necessarily malicious, but they have come to be increasingly associated with undesirable behavior and malicious software.

Spy ware attacks can collect various types of personal information, such as Internet surfing habit, sites that have been visited, but can also interfere with user control of the computer in other ways, such as installing additional software, redirecting Web browser activity, accessing websites blindly that will cause more harmful viruses, or diverting advertising revenue to a third party. Spy ware can even change computer settings, resulting in slow connection speeds, different home pages, and loss of Internet or other programs. System Tune-up recommends Avast for your virus, anti-spy ware and anti-rookit for your online protection. It FREE and I used it on all my systems. Avast is available free for non-commercial, home use and with its fast, automatic updates Avast! Antivirus is already being used by more than 50 million users worldwide to provide continuous protection against all forms of malicious software (malware).

Advantages of turning off System Restore - System Restore uses a lot of hard drive space. It similar to using the undo feature in Microsoft Word. System Restore is not a truly complete and foolproof form of backup. At best, System Restore can and will get the core operating system running again after a bad crash, but it doesn't return all files to the pre-trouble state, and it can't remove all traces of a program that went bad. As a result, System Restore's usefulness is limited. Turning System Restore off increase your hard drive space and will improve your Windows XP system performance. System Tune-up will safely turn off System Restore.

Defrag Files - Defragging is process done to a hard disk in order to improve performance and recover some lost disk space. Defragging is an essential part of a PC's upkeep as it keeps all the data on your hard disk in an easily readable order. If a hard disk is left without defragging, then over time the disk will begin to lose performance and also slowly reduce the available capacity to data. As you will be aware if your hard disk is running slowly then this will affect the rest of the system performance, in all applications and especially in games, where frame rate is important. How does Defragging improve performance?

When you defrag your hard disk you re-arrange the order in which the data is stored on the drive. The PC will arrange the data so that data that belongs together and needs to be read together is actually put in the same place on the drive. The obvious question here is why doesn't the PC store the data in the correct way in the first place? In an ideal situation (such as a blank disk) the PC would do these as a first option. However with the amount of data being deleted and wrote to the disk every second the PC is on it is no wonder that the data cannot be stored together. System Tune-up will defrag all hard drives.

Once System Tune Steps are complete it is recommend that you back up your vital files are a complete backup is done for your protection.

Windows Vista - Time Servers, Synchronisation and Time Zone Advice

It can be really annoying. You have just got off the plane, booted up your lap top and set the clock to local time. Yet all your appointments suddenly move, not just the ones on that side of the ocean either, when you return home and reset the clock the appointments refuse to go back.

This problem occurs because of the way a computer handles time. In general computers ignore time zones and base their time on UTC (Coordinated Universal Time) the international time standard.
Time can cause havoc with computers, not just with lap tops either. Computers all over the world need to be telling the same time particularly if they have to perform time sensitive transactions or need to keep their networks secure.

Most computer networks use NTP servers (Network Time Protocol) to keep synchronized.NTP time servers use an UTC timing reference either from the Internet or from a radio or GPS transmission. A UTC timing reference originally comes from an atomic clock and is as accurate as humanely possible.

When travelling abroad it is good advice NOT to adjust the system clock as your computer (and its associated programs such as Outlook) stores all time in UTC form and only offsets for a particular time zone (So in France the time is UTC+1 while in the US (EST) it becomes UTC-6.

However there are several features on Windows Vista that can make keeping track of the time a lot easier for travelers.

To keep track of the time zone you are travelling to, windows Vista can display more than one clock in the task bar (up to three).

To enable multiple clocks to be displayed simply double click on the time display in the system tray (bottom-right corner), click the' change date and time settings tab' to bring up a date and time" dialog box, click Additional Clocks tab, tick the check-box of Show this clock, select the time-zone of the clock, enter the display name and click OK button.

Next time your mouse pointer goes over the system tray your new clock should be displayed besides the original (which should be larger).

The clocks can also be placed on the Windows sidebar although this can use precious processing power.
Another useful application in Windows Vista is being able to synchronise the system clock with a UTC time source.

Vista already comes equipped with a NTP service called Windows Time Service (w32tm.exe) which can synchronise to a UTC time source over the Internet. To do this merely double click on the clock in the system tray and await the Internet Time tab. Click it an enter the name of the UTC server you wish to connect to (such as windows.time or nist.gov).

Vista can handle daylight savings time too. If the system clock (the main one not additional ones) is set to adjust for daylight saving then the computer should automatically do it. However it must be noted that some countries in the same time zone do not practice daylight saving hours so the correct time should always be double checked.

Richard N Williams is a technical author and a specialist in the telecommunications and network time synchronisation industry helping to develop dedicated NTP products. Please visit us for more information about a network time server or NTP servers.

Remote Backups Make Unattended Operations Easy

Although offsite data backups are a key part of a data recovery program, they can be time consuming and troublesome. Using an online server backup program means that your vital system information can be protected with a quick and truly unattended process.

No Media Juggling

Traditional backups to external media are often called "unattended" but in reality require an operator to be on site.

Whether you use tapes, DVDs, or external hard drives, you are using media with limited capacity. Once the media is full, someone has to step in and put in a fresh tape.

This leads to one of two choices. You can run backups during the day when the IT staff is present, but this slows the server down while the backup process is running. Alternatively you can run the backup at night, which requires a night operator who often has nothing to do than watch the tapes spin.

With an online backup system, there is no media swapping. Your IT staff can start the backup before leaving for the evening and it will be finished by the next morning.

No Offsite Storage

The second step to traditional backups involves moving the media offsite to a secure location. This could be another company building or a secure vault.

This requires either having company personnel or a courier physically transport the tapes to the offsite location. Time or money has to be spent to get the tapes where they need to go, and more time or money to get them back if you want to restore.

Offsite storage also means that when you do need to restore, you can't do so quickly. Someone has to run and get the tapes from storage before any needed files can be read and this can add hours to the restore job.

Remote backups over the internet mean that your data is automatically off site. It may not even be in the same city so is well protected from any disaster that might damage data at your company location.

Restoring from remote backups is as easy as restoring from tapes in the same room. You have access to your backups instantly any time you need the information.

Local Backups Are Still Important Tools

Traditional media backups haven't been made obsolete by remote backups. They are still an important component of your overall disaster plan.

One downside to remote backups is that if your internet connection goes down, you don't have access to your archives. If you have tape backups, either onsite or offsite, you have an alternative source if you need to do a restore at short notice.

The best recovery plan has multiple layers of protection, so a combination of online file storage with media storage provides the best safety net in case of data loss.

4 Good Reasons to Hire Professional Data Recovery Services

Imagine what would happen if your computer hard disk crashed unexpectedly and you discovered that your personal data had not been backed up for several months.

For most businesses and corporate institutions, the loss of confidential data can be huge financially. It can take weeks or months to re-create lost files such as complex spreadsheets or software source files. In some cases, re-creating the files might not even be a viable option - for example, if the data you've lost included files required by your company's CEO for board meeting scheduled for first thing tomorrow morning.

In such a case, hard disk data recovery could be the ideal to recover your lost data files.

There are a number of hard disk data recovery options available to home and office users. Individuals can use data recovery freeware or software programs to recover data from a partially functional hard drive. On the corporate level, it simply pays to call in a data recovery expert to handle the job. Deciding whether to attempt the job personally or whether to call in a pro is not always easy.

There are certain key factors that can help with the decision making process. Essentially, it's time to call in a hard disk data recovery specialist for the following reasons:

1. A computer won't boot at all.
When your PC will not allow you to enter any commands when booting up, the chances are that a professional job is required. While hard disk data recovery programs can and do work, they cannot function if a computer will not boot up the operating system and read them. In this situation, getting in a technical expert to do the job would be the best option.

2. Recovery programs do not work.
Sometimes a hard disk data recovery program will fail to restore the necessary files. If this happens, the data recovery professionals might still be able to save the day and recover your data.

3. Your lost data files are particularly valuable.
If the files trapped on a computer are impossible to replace, it can simply make sense to bypass personal efforts to restore data and go straight to a professional. While hard disk data recovery programs can be very useful, a professional can often produce better results, or at least deliver more peace of mind in the process.

4. You may not be confident of doing the job yourself.
Sometimes people question their own ability to handle hard disk data recovery, especially if it's something that they haven't done before. If you're not sure what to do, if there is any doubt or concerns in your mind, then do not hesitate in calling in a data recovery specialist.

Although it's not 100% certain that a hard disk data recovery effort will result in a positive outcome, on most occasions it will. There are many data recovery programs available online which can help recover your data, especially on functional systems.

However, getting data recovery professionals involved at an early stage in the recovery process, especially on failed systems, is usually the safest option as it gives you total peace of mind.

Computer Mouse As Mobile Memory Mouse

The computer mouse is the most essential accessory of the computer and the latest to hit the market is the mobile memory mouse which can actually store files and transfer them with the help of USB ports. Another interesting feature is the wireless technology because it has been fitted with 2.4GHz technology and the USB mini trans receiver. It has a rechargeable USB which has to be plugged into the computer even as one is working and it gets charged automatically. After use it has to be inserted back into the mouse because it works on battery charge. The battery life indicator glows in red when the battery is low. .

The modern age mouse is equipped with high definition laser technology which enhances performance, ensures smoother tracking and faster responses from the mouse. The cordless mouse has a maximum supporting operating distance of about 9metres and hence it is ideal for notebook users as it is easier to carry. The mouse now has five programmable buttons which adapts to the users needs thereby providing better service and comfort to the user. The optical technology makes the mouse pad redundant. Any flat surface is enough to make the mouse functional. Some of the latest additions to the market use the adaptable diamond eye technology which provides faster movement identification.

Keeping in mind the right hand bias, the mouse of today has been designed in such a way that both left handed and right handed users are comfortable using it. There is also the magnifier point and four way scrolling function. A special case has been provided for carrying the mouse. A bluetooth mode switch is also provided along with the switch button to turn it off or on. The cordless laser mouse offers a zoom wheel and runs on AA type batteries. The auto shut off option helps one to save on power.

The forwards and backwards button helps us to navigate the internet with ease. The scroll wheel is totally frictionless and this ensures that the computer mouse can literally fly through long documents smoothly and very fast. Some batteries run for 6months and others for 2 years. Unlike the optical mouse the new mouse can take any kind of surface to function very smoothly. Some have non slip side rails for better hold.

Scanner Features

The scanner is an essential office accessory today because within seconds documents, books and slides can be copied faithfully. Scanners can be used at home, office or a shop. Depending on the use one can select the best available scanner whether it is the flat bed scanner, desktop scanner or the hand held laser barcode scanner. Each of these devices functions for different purposes.

For home or office use the flat bed scanner is an especially sought after device because of its easy and simple operability. The loading is done manually in some brands whereas others have the facility to be loaded automatically without any assistance. There is also a facility for automatic duplexing which means that both sides of the paper or document is automatically scanned. This is especially useful when the volume of work is greater. Some devices are as light as 3.8 kilograms and can be placed anywhere. There are the heavier ones weighing a little over 8 kilograms.

The colour resolution is as high as 4800 horizontally and 9600 vertically. The USB port helps to connect to other external devices and there is very easy transference. For colour scanning there is 24 or 48 bit colour compatibility and 8 bit for grey levels. However even with 24 bit there are about 16.7 million colours. The different media are plain paper, books, films and slides. Different sizes like envelope, postcards and paper can be printed very effectively.

Most scanners offer a storage capacity of up to fifty sheets while there are others providing a storage capacity of a hundred sheets. The desktop scanner is the best because it is portable and can accommodate any kind of media. However some scanners are compatible only with a PC. One must therefore choose the scanner that suits the existing system. The scanning speed can anywhere between 60 to 110 pages per minute.

The handheld laser barcode scanner is very useful to scan bar codes on gift items like video games, sports goods, jewels, flowers, books etc. This is obviously useful in busy commercial establishments where the items need to be speedily scanned and the hand held device makes it easy to manoeuvre. Some scanners which are not handheld can be tilted at a convenient angle to read barcodes.

The extra CCD scanning element offers better and higher quality levels of scanning by using the Image enhancement technology and Dynamic Threshold technology.

Wholesale Computer Parts - Getting Good Deals

Have you noticed that most branded computers today have become very expensive? If you have, then you probably have been shopping in the market for a new computer system. You might be confused why they’re so expensive when prices have fallen in certain sectors that contribute to the making of computers. For example, the prices of memory have hit an all time low. This is because of the enhancements in manufacturing volumes of memory manufacturers.

The prices of mother boards and other assorted computer parts have also decreased significantly. Well, you have to remember that the branded computer manufacturers are in the business to make their own profits. That is why good computers remain expensive despite the reduction that we have been witnessing.

Fortunately, you can still avail yourself of a good computer system these days. You can do this by sourcing your computer from dealers who specialize in wholesale computer parts. A lot of people are sourcing out and building their own computer through wholesale computer parts. However, some folks think that these parts are in some way inferior to the parts available in branded computers. To be honest, I used to be one of those people.

In the past, I believed that cheap and inefficient computer parts manufacturers use wholesale computer parts to offload their inferior stock on unsuspecting customers. However, my views about this issue changed when my computer broke down. I got a quote that was very high when I took it to the authorized dealer. I had no choice but to go to a local wholesale computer parts dealer because my funds are low and I desperately need to have my computer fixed.

I was amazed when I saw that this wholesale computer parts dealer has his own repair service. The repair quote I got was a fraction of what the authorized dealer had given me after they opened up my computer and diagnosed the problem. Naturally, I was curious as to what had created the difference, so I suspiciously eyed the wholesale computer parts on display. The dealer sensed that I was suspicious so he opened up my computer to show me that the replacement parts were the same with what my existing computer had. He willingly explained the wholesale computer parts business to me when I asked him how this was possible.

He patiently explained that computer parts manufacturers usually manufacture more parts than required by an order from a branded computer manufacturer. This is an in-built quality control feature that ensures that a sudden spurt in demand or a quality crisis can be handled quickly and efficiently. When the order is processed without incident, the excess parts are then offloaded to dealers for a huge discount. These equally good computer parts are then sold for a discount to users like you and me.

8 Steps to Evaluating a Used Laptop Computer

If you have considered purchasing a used laptop computer you might first want to review the following step by step evaluation process to ensure that you get a good quality used laptop computer.

Step 1-Find out what external hardware is included with the computer. At a bare minimum, the laptop computer will need a power cord. Other options that might be included are an external mouse, keyboard and floppy disk drive. Additional hardware offerings could include a microphone, speakers, printer, scanner, external wireless card and battery.

Step 2-Find out what internal hardware is included with the computer. The most popular internal hardware component is the internal wireless network card. Other internal hardware components include things such as a video card, DVD drive, CD Rom drive, and a sound card.

Step 3-Before you even consider purchasing a used laptop computer, ask if the computer components are original, repaired or replaced.

Step 4-Ask the seller if the machine is in full working condition. Some questions you might ask include a. does the machine power on and off properly; b. is the monitor clear without scratches or flaws; c. does the battery work properly; d. does the computer work properly without the battery installed and, if so, how long does the battery stay charged.

Step 5-Determine what operating system is installed in the used laptop computer. The newest version of Windows, called Windows Vista, is not always compatible with all softwares. You will need to find out what operating system is running the computer and research if that operating system will run the software that you intend to install.

Step 6-Find out what software is being included with the computer.

Step 7-Thoroughly research competitive prices for the make, model and year of the used laptop computer that you are considering buying. This is easy to determine by reviewing the bids on similar products on Ebay.

Step 8-If the machine is a fairly new machine, it might still be covered under warranty. If so, ask the seller if the warranty is transferrable to you upon purchase.

Quick Tips On Buying A Computer

When you are trying to decide how to buy a computer, you have quite a few options. There are so many options that you may not know which one to go with.

One of the best ways to lessen computer shopping confusion is by knowing what it is that you are looking for in the first place. You will need to know what you are using your computer for, how much money you are willing to spend, and how much space you have to put your computer in.

Once you have all of this figured out, then you are ready to be a more savvy shopper. Now you can start doing your research. The Internet is a great place to do your research to find computer brands and prices that match your needs.

Because you have listed what you need to use your computer for, when you look online you can search for computers with those features. For example, if your computer will be used for doing a lot of gaming, obviously you will look for something that is compatible with that goal.

In addition to this you can do great price comparisons online, without a pushy salesperson breathing down your neck. You can do this shopping research right in the privacy of your own home, and you do not have to feel pressured to buy before you feel comfortable with your choice.

Once you do your research online using your list of requirements and you know exactly what types of computer systems will work best for you, you can either make your purchase online, or even go in to an actual store to see the computer you are choosing to buy first, and then make your purchase.

Just remember that if you are prepared and aware, this can be a very pleasant shopping experience for you.

Computer Room Rentals

Computers are used by millions of people. Internet usage has become an integral part of everyday life. Computer rooms are often rented out for training, seminars and business purposes. They need to be clean and no food or beverage is allowed into the workspace.

Computer technology is advancing rapidly making parts smaller and more powerful, and a group of computers can be contained into a very small space. Rented rooms that house computers must be well ventilated in order to provide proper circulation. The computer rooms must also be equipped with fast and reliable fire extinguishing systems that can put out a fire in seconds ensuring the safety of the occupants of the room, as well as the safety of the computers. Many organizations offer beginner and advanced computer training programs. They prefer to hold these sessions in rented computer rooms as it is more cost effective and save the company time and space.

Computer Repair Books

With computers becoming an integral part of our lives, we are often left in a bind if something were to go wrong with them, because we are still unaware of what it takes to repair them. Although most of us have the basic knowledge of software, when it comes to troubleshooting in the field of hardware, most of us usually draw a big blank.

A good computer repair book is always handy. One thing to look for in a computer book is whether or not it is reader friendly. It should be easy to understand, and a reader should be able to practically apply whatever is said in the book. A book is of no use if it is full of technical jargons that comes to a naught, if not understood properly.

A good computer repair book should have hands-on solutions clearly listed that can be implemented right away. In addition, a computer repair book should always refer to selecting quality replacements, and contain information on up grading present software to extend the life and power of a PC. It should contain details on entertainment upgrades, in a way that enhances your enjoyment of photos, movies or music. A good computer repair book should also equip you with the knowledge of what to do to prevent disasters by solving the problem at hand. Preventing it from reoccurring and overall maintenance of your computer should also be a priority. A good computer repair book should give you solutions with regard to other accessories like a printer or a scanner and small things like resolving mouse and keyboard problems.

One good way of finding out about the quality of a computer repair book is to go through reader reviews. This would give you a fair idea before you make your purchase decision.

Sell Online Games - Make Checks With Lots of Big Numbers on Them!

Sell Games Online. For a ton of people in the gaming community, there's the exact headline that no one ever thought they would ever see.

But there it is and it is as beautiful as you might have imagined.

There is now the opportunity for people across the globe to tap into the stunning potential of selling online multiplayer games. What SHOULD have been held in reserve for just the big companies to profit from until the demand started to slip, is now being made available to us, the gamers themselves, so that we can enjoy the money that is being generated.

Imagine suddenly being able to sell online games by allowing gamers to try them for FREE and then making money when a certain percentage of them upgrade to paying players!

That's exactly what is now happening and the rush to become a part of this is almost comical.

In 1999, the online gaming industry was generating $2.2 billion dollars in revenue. In 2006, that number had shot up to $26 billion.

Hang on to your start buttons, everyone, because that same number is now projected to be $55.5 billion in 2009! These are the kinds of numbers that almost defy logic.

I recently put a Google AdWords campaign on about this very thing simple to see which ad groups I would find the most "play" in. (Sorry about the pun!)

The adgroup I entitled "Sell Online Games" did about 4,500% better than any other I had even in the online gaming family.

It seems that everyone has clearly recognized what is happening right in front of them with online multiplayer gaming becoming the massive draw that it was intended to be, but that NO ONE anticipated being allowed to cash in on that!

You now have that ability.

But it gets even better than that if you are serious about wanting to sell online games and making HUGE money doing so...the first and ONLY online multiplayer direct marketer of these games is now allowing people to become distributors for a tiny fee...and they are doing so because of what is about to happen NEXT YEAR.

The company is aligning people right NOW, because in 2009, they are releasing the online multiplayer version of the biggest game in the world...

SOCCER!

Online Multiplayer Games - Can You Imagine How Much Money Your Could Make Selling These Suckers?

Online multiplayer games have completely taken over! It's so official it's not even funny.

Get this, in several Asian countries, there is talk of putting an outright ban on online multiplayer games because there is a very real fear there that worker productivity is about to suffer because of all the lost sleep due to gaming!

How cool is that?

In Japan, there are online multiplayer games that are SO popular that gamers are putting their names onto online waiting lists WEEKS ahead of time so that they can play them!

The online gaming industry has seen a meteoric rise from $2.2 billion in income generated in 1999 to a projected $55.5 billion in 2009! That's insanity.

But here comes the real crazy part... until now, there has not been a way for the gaming community itself to cash in on their own wild ride. There hasn't been a very tangible way for the very people who went out and created this excitement in online multiplayer games to in any way make money from it.

But there is now a way, and the potential for everyone reading this is numbing.

Now gamers all across the globe can tap into the first and only direct online game distributor. If you so choose, you can start to immediately own websites that will allow you to allow others to try YOUR online multiplayer games for NOTHIN!

Those players who love the games so much that they upgrade will do so through your sites and YOU WILL EARN MONEY! Big money.

But the ride does not end there kiddies...because you will also be able to make mad money by showing others how to do the same thing! And that is where everything changes! By showing others how to do exactly what you've just read, you will put yourself into a position of making money off of all of their online multiplayer games sales!

You will witness EXPONENTIAL growth in your online multiplayer games business!

My advice: HIT PLAY NOW!

Very rarely do people watch opportunities happen in their very own backyard. This is all about online multiplayer gaming. Games that allow you to beat up on people in other countries around the world using VOIP to laugh at them.

Opportunities like this do not happen often.

Nor should they!

Protecting Your Computer From Power Surges, Data Loss, Viruses, And Spyware

Protecting Against A Power Surge:

Your computer is an expensive investment; you should protect it from a power surge. If a sudden rush of electricity hits, a surge protector will blow the fuse or trip the breaker, this is what saves your computer. You should be sure to use a surge protector with a phone jack to keep the phone line from being a way for the electricity to travel to your computer. You should know that a surge protector cannot safeguard you form a direct lightning strike. If you completely unplug your computer and modem during a thunderstorm, this is the only sure way to protect your computer against lightning strikes.

How Do You Protect Your Computer From Loss Of Data?

If your hard disk crashes it can't take all of your important saved information and software with it if you have backed it up. To protect your computer data everything should be 'backed up' by saving it to a floppy disk or compact disc, this is your best safeguard against data loss. So, periodically you should make copies of the information on your hard disk.

Protecting Your Computer From Viruses and Spyware

You must also protect your computer, data, privacy, and information from viruses and spyware; every time you install a new program, copy files, and download from the Internet you are susceptible. These days it is a must to have a good, reliable virus protection program. Be sure to get one that will review each new file and check it for viruses. Also, you should be able to get regular updates via the Internet because there are always new viruses that you will need protection from on an ongoing basis.

Electronic Language Translators and How They Work

While being fluent in foreign languages is an excellent and worthwhile skill to have, many of us simply do not have the time or indeed talent to commit observes fully to such intense bouts of learning. Different languages have their own unique and individual eccentricities, a certain stress on certain vowels or constants, emphasis on certain words etc.

Words that sound alike can differ majorly in terms of meaning, and whilst this may be amusing among friends, things can take an unpleasant turn if you are with say a business client, or someone who you need to impress. Whilst taking the time and effort to learn a foreign language is commendable, it is always useful and indeed reassuring to have a dependable point of reference so that if you are unsure as to the meaning of something, you can have a precise and accurate translation.

Electronic language translators are excellent devices for this purpose, not only acting as a portable, electronic dictionary but also coming complete with the rules of grammar and pronunciation of words. These electronic language translators are excellent learning devices allowing the user to have a point of reference as to the proper pronunciation of words.
If you are engaging in business, making at least some effort to know the basic tenets of your clients language will no doubt impress them, the fact that you have taken the time and effort to do so, will be a gesture which will be most appreciated.

Pronunciation can be very crucial, in Japanese the word for four is also very similar to the Japanese word for death. The same issue arises in China for wife and pig! Whilst such semantic curiosities are interesting, they can case major offence to your hosts.

Some of the more advanced models actually have a facility whereby the user speaks directly into the dictionary, and the spoken phrases are then automatically interpreted and translated and then directly spoken back to the user to give them feedback. For optimal results, such models also have directly programmed into them a list of commonly spoken and most useful phrases and words, such as phrases for use during an emergency. It may sound like an unlikely concern, but being able to communicate that there is a fire, that you are sick, or need the police in the language in question is a luxury that cannot be faulted.

Pricing for electronic translation devices can vary significantly, based on brand name, features included as well as the extra options that are included, such as battery chargers, warranties etc. You may want to shop online and check via the comparison sites , this will you to determine at a glance which sites offer the cheapest and best value for money.

As a word of caution though, don't be tempted into buying a electronic translation device which has a load of different languages that you are unlikely to ever use. That is not good value for money, it is only a saving if you derive some practical benefit from it!

10 Awesome Google Search Tricks Using Upfuse

There is a lot of sophistication and precision behind Google's simple and fast loading exterior that the average Googler is not aware of. For the average Google user, searching for items on Google is simply typing in the search word and then pressing the famous "Google Search" button. While this is good, it is sometimes not efficient and is time consuming to find exactly what you are looking for on the web. The goal of this article is to enlighten the average user and even the advanced Google user of ways to produce more productive and precise results on Google using Upfuse. Upfuse is an example site and you can apply these same techniques for any site you choose.

For those of you who don't know what Upfuse is...Upfuse is an international, multi-lingual, social marketplace that allows you to buy, sell, share and vote items in your local community and around the globe. Upfuse is currently available in 11 different languages, 245 countries and more than 100 world currencies. You don't have to register to buy or sell your items on Upfuse.

Moving forward...

Trick #1 - Limit your search to only 1 site. To do this simply type in Google your search word and use site:upfuse.com. So for example, suppose you want to only find HDTVs for sale on Upfuse. Type in Google, hdtv site:upfuse.com and press "Google Search". The results will show only hdtv on Upfuse that is currently for sale.

Trick #2 - Search within a range of numbers. Suppose you want to find HDTVs for sale on Upfuse but you only wanted to find them within the price range of $700 and $1000. How will you do this? Simple. Type in Google, hdtv site:upfuse.com $700..$1000 and search. Notice we only used 2 periods and no spaces in between the prices. Also the number range works for dollar currencies only. So typing in British Pound or the Japanese Yen and other non-dollar currencies will not work even though Upfuse supports these currencies.

Trick #3 - Search only web page titles. So you want to search only by item titles. No problem. The allintitle query modifier does just the job. Ok so you want to find only GeForce 8800 GT Video Cards for sale on Upfuse. To do this, type in: allintitle: GeForce 8800 GT Video Card site:upfuse.com and search. The results will be fine tuned to only your keywords. This is a very precise search and may give you no results. If this happens, try using less words in your search. So using allintitle: GeForce 8800 GT Video Card site:upfuse.com may return no results but using allintitle: GeForce site:upfuse.com may return more results. How's that for precision?

Trick #4 - Search for similar items or synonyms. Use the tilde operator (~). For example, you're broke and want to find cheap HDTVs for sale on Upfuse. Use the tilde (~) and your word with no spaces in between. Fore example: ~cheap HDTV site:upfuse.com and google it. The generated results will also include similar words to "cheap"such as "affordable", "inexpensive", "low budget" and so on.

Trick #5 - Search for weather conditions. So a hottie just joined Upfuse and you want to strike up a conversation with her or him and you don't know what to say. Talk about the weather! To search for current weather conditions on Google, search weather new york ny and you will see the current weather condition in New York, NY along with a four day forecast of New York's weather. Nice work. Now the only problem is getting a favorable response from the person you just messaged; but that's out of the scope of this article. Just kidding! But seriously note the that weather search works for other major cities around the world also. So you want to find weather conditions in Paris, France, then all you do is search: weather paris france and you'll find the weather for Paris.

Trick #6 - Search by shipping tracking numbers. Tracking packages and shipping can also be done on Google. For instance, you just bought a new laptop on Upfuse and you're anxious to know where it currently is. The seller gave you Fedex tracking number 123456789012. Just do a Google search for: fedex 123456789012 and you can stay up to date with your laptop's itinerary. This also works for UPS and USPS. So using: ups 123456789012 or usps 123456789012 will work. Don't worry you'll get your laptop soon. Also, Upfuse has strict policy's in place that will ensure you get what you paid for.

Trick #7 - Search for the local time. This is handy when you are doing international trading on Upfuse with a person in a different country or time zone to you. Suppose you are in Shanghai, China and you bought an ipod from a seller in Miami, FL. Typing time miami fl into Google with give you the current time in Miami, FL. Note that you don't need to put the state "FL" into your Google search but this will be beneficial for accuracy. Searching time miami in Google also produces a result for Miami, MO. Also note that the local time search also works for all countries around the world. Search time trinidad or time germany and you will get the current times in Trinidad & Tobago and in Germany respectively.

Trick #8 - Convert between global currencies. The built-in Google currency conversion is handy for dealing with transactions between currencies different from yours. For example, you do a search on Upfuse for "ipod" and you see a bunch of results of items from different countries with currencies such as CRC or EUR. Don't be intimidated by the large numbers! In Google, just search 25000 CRC in USD and you will get $50.50 US Dollars. That's not a bad price for an ipod is it? All this time you thought the seller was selling the ipod for $25,000 US Dollars. Such a shame. Note that the currency for all items in your shopping cart on Upfuse is US Dollars so if you buy an item for 25,000 CRC it is dynamically converted to $50.50 US Dollars.

Trick #9 - Search for items within a certain date range. How do you search for items that was listed on Upfuse last week? Or last month? Good question. Answer: The date range query modifier. The date range search is very handy for finding fresh new content or if you want to avoid search results from current events and focus on historical content. To do a date range search, the format is daterange:startdate-enddate where "startdate" and "enddate" are Julian dates. So suppose you wanted to find all laptops listed on Upfuse since last month. Then do a Google search using the following: laptops site:upfuse.com daterange:2454597-2454627 and you will find all laptops on Upfuse listed within the last 30 days. Note that the Google date range search is based on the date that the web page is indexed by Google and not the date when the page was actually created. So a page that was created on 1st May may not be indexed by Google until 15th May. Also, a page may get indexed by Google multiple times. So a page that was indexed by Google on 15th May can get indexed again on May 30th and in your search results, you will see the item in your May 30th search and not in your May 15th search. Pretty complicated but worth it. The good news is there are some sites on the web that will automatically convert the Julian dates for you so you don't have to learn Julian date conversions.

Trick #10 - Translate between different languages. Since Upfuse is a multi-lingual marketplace, it is not common for you to get messages from people who don't speak your native language. You might get a message from a cutie saying as "Hola" or "Bonjour". Instead of being rude and ignoring them, just put the foreign word into Google's language tool and translate it. You may find out you have admirers and you didn't even know it!

Share the knowledge - you are now armed with knowledge that the average Google user does not know about and you are on your way to being a Google master...well hopefully. If you found this article interesting, then share it with your friends, blog it, bookmark it and refer back to it for later reference. Let your friends know about the power of Google and Upfuse.

If you are looking for a used computer, you can save a lot of money. However, there are some very important factors you should take in to consideration before purchasing the first used computer you see. As with all things, a rash purchase can often lead to regrets down the line.

The best advice anyone can follow when shopping for a used computer is to make sure you have a knowledgeable friend at your side who can tell you what is a good deal and what is not. The computer should be given a complete physical inspection to look for damage and glitches. Make sure that you and your friend check for problems and not a salesperson. You should also make sure that the sale you are about to purchase includes the original operating system software discs and manuals. You should have the manuals, discs and licenses for any and all software applications and fonts on the machine.

Remember that computers depreciate quickly, so find out the value of the computer as it is now and not when it was new. You can check out used computer sales on the Internet to see what people are paying, but keep in mind that there is no real true source to find out what a used computer should cost.

Last but not least, make sure the computer you are purchasing is legal. There are hundreds of “hot” (stolen) computers out there in the hands of thieves that would love to get their hands on your money.
